Fine Workshops

As you will see from the following material my School visits are unique, as, to our knowledge, I am the only service which offers the children the opportunity to see, hear & even play such a wide variety of instruments, from the basic Keyboard (Harmonium) to the very unusual Tibetan Singing Bell. A simple tune can be taught in seconds, so as you can imagine the benefits to the children can be enormous - it's stimulating and it's great fun. Something really different and exciting for the children -and staff.

I usually visit for a full or half day and the costs can be as little as 40p.per child (please contact for a quote for your area).

Capacity

Half day A.M or P.M .In which it is possible to take up to 6 groups of 50 (but they will have very little time each). Optimum is probably 3 groups or so.

Full day: In which I can fit up to 15 groups, again with little time. (Extra discounts available for more than one day). Whichever, I make it as interesting and entertaining as possible. Travel is included in the price and V.A.T is not payable. I work out time tabling for you and provide worksheets & instrument lists for the staff.

Schools Information

Do you have trouble finding the right input into projects? Need help with Sound (all stages), Tudors, Vikings, Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, South America, Invaders, Settlers, Africa, India, Victorians, Environment, Materials, and The Human Body etc.? * Problem solved. Fine Tuning covers all these, as well as "Hands-on" music making and simple instrument making, using a range of unusual musical instruments from around the world -and from all periods, in an amusing and stimulating way, ensuring that childrens' interest and excitement is created throughout. It's a great learning experience, it's stimulating- and it's fun! Use it as a one -off entertainment. It can also solve school trip problems, because Fine Tuning brings its "Hands-on" museum to you!

What Is A Typical Session?

The day, (or half day), starts with an amusing demonstration to all participants.

This involves over 40 different instruments and would   normally cover the topics you request (up to 6 or 7), as well as vibration, amplification, the techniques used to play the instruments.

This lasts approx 45 mins.

The rest of the time is split into group or class sessions, using not only the instruments, but also finger charts, throat mikes, tuners and so on.

The children are encouraged to try all the instruments and no one is left out. A simple tune can be taught in seconds, even to those who have never played before. Those with any experience at all can usually cross from one instrument to another. Violin to mandolin, recorder to flageolet etc., with benefits to all, even very small children. It has been known  (regularly), for Teachers to get involved as well!  NB the wind instruments are cleaned in EVERY class session.

What Experience Do You Have?

So far, Fine Tuning has demonstrated to nearly 1 Million children, bringing (we hope) a beneficial & economic service. It has become very popular as a resource in England, (mostly), which reflects not only the educational effectiveness of the visits, but equally important the entertainment factor. It educates- and it's FUN. As you know, it is no mean feat to generate excitement and enthusiasm with large groups of children aged from 3-16 and to keep this up through the demonstration and the sessions that follow, yet maintains control. - Especially at Christmas (A special show is done at this time of year at no extra cost). This is Tony's forte.

Tony is an instrument maker but please note, these demonstrations are not used as an excuse to sell instruments - they are purely educational. Other services can be offered- Teacher training days, unusual CDs, fund raising Barn Dances, Ceilidhes & Concerts can be arranged at reasonable prices -and for all ages.
